After selling his tech firm, Nashville entrepreneur banks on Amazon for his next bet
Nashville has long been a hub for health care and music, but one local entrepreneur is aiming to turn the city into a center for something less familiar — e-commerce. “Two things feel true to me about the universe: Nashville’s housing market is continuing to go up and people are going to buy things on the internet,” Edgenet co-founder and former CEO Steve Proctor said. “If you can be responsible for those transactions you’ll be successful.” Proctor and co-founder Tim Stafford sold Edgenet, an e-commerce company, in January to Chicago-based product-management company Gladson LLC for what Proctor said was close to $100 million. Edgenet, which helps brands, suppliers and retailers produce content for commerce sites, works with clients such as Lowe’s, Best Buy and Auto Zone.
