Free agent third baseman Anthony Rendon agreed to a 7-year, $245 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels, pitcher Stephen Strasburg agreed to a 7-year, $245 million contract with the Washington Nationals, and pitcher Gerrit Cole agreed to a 9-year, $324 million contract with the New York Yankees.
Rendon, Strasburg and Cole are now all hundred-millionaires, but they have another thing in common. They’re all represented by agent Scott Boras.
With the help of Boras’s negotiating skills, they signed three of the nine most lucrative contracts in baseball today. Boras is known as a tough negotiator, and has a history of squeezing teams for every last penny when it comes to his players’ contracts.
It’s unclear the exact commission Boras makes from these contracts, but several baseball agents told MarketWatch it’s standard for them to take a 5% commission.
Boras represents over 50 active MLB players and would make at least $27 million in commissions for the 2020 baseball season, based on a 5% commission. That would make him the 15th highest-paid player in the MLB, according to contract data from spotrac.

It’s worth noting the Boras’s commission will likely end up being higher than $27 million once more of his free agent clients reach agreements with MLB teams this offseason.
Boras and his representation did not respond to requests for comment on this story.
During the contracts for Rendon, Strasburg and Cole alone, Boras will make over $40 million in commission, assuming the aforementioned 5% rate.
Other notables players Boras negotiated contracts for in the past include $330 million man Bryce Harper and former MVP Alex Rodriguez, who made over $450 million throughout his career.
