Atlanta population soars by 730,000, now fourth fastest growing metro
For two weeks, closures, cancellations and furloughs have rippled through the Atlanta economy, but new population data offers a reminder of just how fast the region has been expanding over the past decade. Atlanta was the fourth fastest growing metro area in the country between 2010 and 2019, adding just over 730,000 people, according to the U.S. Census. Metro Atlanta, including the cities Sandy Springs, Dunwoody and Alpharetta, saw population surge by 733,646, growing from almost 5.3 million to just over 6 million.
