The organizers of the Burning Man festival have turned to lobbyists in Washington for help with governmental permitting, according to a recent disclosure.
The Burning Man Project has hired the law and lobbying firm Holland & Knight for work on “permitting approval,” says a filing dated Friday. The firm has been working since May on behalf of the festival, which is held annually in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert and culminates in the burning of a large wooden effigy.

Earlier this month, the Bureau of Land Management decided against allowing the festival to have up to 100,000 participants when it takes place in the late summer this year, with the federal agency instead opting to keep attendance capped at last year’s level of 80,000.
In addition, BLM officials gave organizers more time to address environmental and security concerns and said it might hire a private security company this year to conduct drug screenings, a Reno Gazette-Journal report said.
In a blog post last week, the Burning Man Project expressed concerns about some new BLM requirements for its gathering. Regarding the potential screenings, the blog post: “This is one requirement we are prepared to push back on.”
