Dow trades near session lows Tuesday midday, sheds 700 points as tech and communication services sink

U.S. stock indexes midday Tuesday were trading sharply lower, led by declines in information technology and communication services shares. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was off 672 points, or 2.9%, at 22,981, at last check, while the S&P 500 index was down 3.2% at 2,732, while the Nasdaq Composite Index was trading 3.7% lower at 8,243. Losses in tech names were being leading the way down and powered by a retreat in Amazon.com Inc. , down 3.1% , and shares of Tesla Inc. , which were off 7.4%.
