WEDNESDAY

<p class="canvas-atom canvas-text Mb(1.0em) Mb(0)–sm Mt(0.8em)–sm" type="text" content="Earnings Spotlight: Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG, $700.00) – Chipotle’s stock is up more than 60% this year thanks to continued business improvements following its long battle to recover from its numerous foodborne illness outbreaks. In fact, shares are at least within sniffing distance (less than 10%) of all-time highs set in 2015. The spark was a February earnings report that saw profits, revenues and same-store sales all beat estimates. The only problem? CMG is now trading at an expensive 44 times analysts’ estimates for next year’s profits. That high valuation has prompted both Morgan Stanley and Jefferies analysts to downgrade the stock to "Hold" equivalents this month. Wall Street still has high expectations for the first quarter, which Chipotle will report following the April 24 close. The pros are looking for 9.8% year-over-year growth in revenues to $1.26 billion, and a 40.4% jump in profits to $2.99 per share.” data-reactid=”23″>Earnings Spotlight: Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG, $700.00) – Chipotle’s stock is up more than 60% this year thanks to continued business improvements following its long battle to recover from its numerous foodborne illness outbreaks. <p class="canvas-atom canvas-text Mb(1.0em) Mb(0)–sm Mt(0.8em)–sm" type="text" content="Earnings Spotlight: Tesla (TSLA, $273.26) – "Our suspicion is that Q1 EPS could be an outright disaster, given that Tesla guided for a loss with an entire month left in the quarter, and its inherently high degree of operating leverage." That’s what CFRA analyst Garrett Nelson recently told MarketWatch when asked about the company’s Q1 earnings report, due out after Wednesday’s close. TSLA stock is off a little more than 19% this year due in part to its woeful guidance – CEO Elon Musk not only said he didn’t expect a Q1 profit, but also announced store closures and job cuts. The big question now is how big the first-quarter loss will be. Analysts right now do expect a 56.2% jump in revenues to $5.33 billion, and while profits should at least contract significantly, from $3.35 per share in red ink last Q1 to a 69-cent loss for this year’s first quarter.” data-reactid=”24″>Earnings Spotlight: Tesla (TSLA, $273.26) – “Our suspicion is that Q1 EPS could be an outright disaster, given that Tesla guided for a loss with an entire month left in the quarter, and its inherently high degree of operating leverage.” That’s what CFRA analyst Garrett Nelson recently told MarketWatch when asked about the company’s Q1 earnings report, due out after Wednesday’s close. <p class="canvas-atom canvas-text Mb(1.0em) Mb(0)–sm Mt(0.8em)–sm" type="text" content="Earnings Spotlight: Amazon.com (AMZN, $1,861.69) – AMZN shares have indeed recovered in 2019 after a woeful finish to 2018, with the stock up more than 23% to nearly 16% for the Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index. But analysts overwhelming believe shares have more room to run, with 43 of 47 of those covering the stock ranking it a "Buy" or "Strong Buy." The latest analyst outfit to jump on the wagon was Societe Generale, which said on April 8 that the company has "robust" profit potential and that the stock could gain another 30% or so. Amazon reports following the April 25 closing bell, and analysts are once again expecting a high-growth quarter: sales are projected to improve 16.9% to $59.65 billion, and profits should rocket 44.3% higher to $4.73 per share.” data-reactid=”28″>Earnings Spotlight: Amazon.com (AMZN, $1,861.69) – AMZN shares have indeed recovered in 2019 after a woeful finish to 2018, with the stock up more than 23% to nearly 16% for the Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index.
