<p class="canvas-atom canvas-text Mb(1.0em) Mb(0)–sm Mt(0.8em)–sm" type="text" content="Earnings Spotlight: Alibaba (BABA, $179.04) – Despite the tumult in China, where decelerating GDP growth and tariff issues with the U.S. have held back many stocks, Alibaba is running strong with nearly 30% gains so far in 2019. A wide swath of analysts see plenty of runway going forward, too, with 47 of the 48 pros covering BABA calling it a "Buy" or "Strong Buy" – the lone dissenter is on the fence at "Hold." Several analysts have recently expressed bullishness about the company’s product recommendation feed, including KeyBanc’s Hans Chung, who says "in the near to mid-term, we expect feed monetization to start in the near future and contribute a meaningful growth." For the quarter to be reported, analysts are looking for 50.4% revenue growth to $13.42 billion, which should fuel a 12% improvement in profits to 98 cents per share.” data-reactid=”23″>Earnings Spotlight: Alibaba (BABA, $179.04) – Despite the tumult in China, where decelerating GDP growth and tariff issues with the U.S. have held back many stocks, Alibaba is running strong with nearly 30% gains so far in 2019. THURSDAY

<p class="canvas-atom canvas-text Mb(1.0em) Mb(0)–sm Mt(0.8em)–sm" type="text" content="Earnings Spotlight: Walmart (WMT, $99.54) – Walmart has joined many other retailers in lagging the market in 2019, with WMT shares up 8.3% year-to-date versus a 14.5% gain for the Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index. But it will have the opportunity to spark something ahead of the May 16 opening bell when it reports its results for the quarter ended in April. Expectations are low: Analysts on average are looking for 1.9% revenue growth to $124.99 billion, but a 10.5% drop in profits to $1.02 per share. Walmart was tripped up last month when U.K. regulators blocked a deal to merge Walmart’s U.K. grocery unit Asda and large supermarket chain Sainsbury. Wall Street as a whole isn’t hot on the stock, either, with analysts producing just as many "Holds" (15) as "Buys," as well as a pair of "Sell" calls. Still, Bernstein analyst Brandon Fletcher recently jumped on Walmart’s bull train with enthusiasm, upgrading the stock to "Outperform" (equivalent of "Buy") and saying "the fully realized vision of what Walmart could be is so fantastic that, if Walmart even accidentally leans in the right direction, we think it could create an outsized investment return over several years."” data-reactid=”27″>Earnings Spotlight: Walmart (WMT, $99.54) – Walmart has joined many other retailers in lagging the market in 2019, with WMT shares up 8.3% year-to-date versus a 14.5% gain for the Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index. <p class="canvas-atom canvas-text Mb(1.0em) Mb(0)–sm Mt(0.8em)–sm" type="text" content="Earnings Spotlight: Nvidia (NVDA, $170.19) – Nvidia is putting together a market-topping year with roughly 26% returns, and that includes a large bite taken out of its gains thanks to a quick reverse in U.S.-Chinese trade talk progress. "China is an important market and it’s an important gaming market," Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said in February during the company’s last earnings conference call. China is expected to retaliate to America’s amplification of current tariffs from 10% to 25%, potentially by going after the semiconductor industry. Even backing out China, Nvidia is suffering other issues such as cryptocurrency mining demand and a slowdown in data-center demand. As such, analysts expect Nvidia to report first-quarter struggles similar to its difficult Q4. The consensus estimate is for a 31.5% decline in revenues to $2.2 billion, and a 61.4% plunge in profits to 79 cents per share.” data-reactid=”28″>Earnings Spotlight: Nvidia (NVDA, $170.19) – Nvidia is putting together a market-topping year with roughly 26% returns, and that includes a large bite taken out of its gains thanks to a quick reverse in U.S.-Chinese trade talk progress. “China is an important market and it’s an important gaming market,” Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said in February during the company’s last earnings conference call.
