TUESDAY

<p class="canvas-atom canvas-text Mb(1.0em) Mb(0)–sm Mt(0.8em)–sm" type="text" content="Earnings Spotlight: GameStop (GME, $4.23) – GameStop investors are hoping for a little salve on what has been a disastrous year for the video-game retailer. GME shares have lost two-thirds of their value in 2019 amid dipping revenues, a plunge in same-store sales and the elimination of its dividend. Some of that is thanks to a pause in buying as gamers wait for Microsoft’s (MSFT) and Sony’s (SNE) next-gen consoles, but some of that is from the growing trend of digital downloads and game streaming, which are keeping customers away from brick-and-mortar locations. On Sept. 3, Loop Capital analyst Anthony Chukumba reiterated his Hold rating but lowered his price target to $4 per share. He’s "increasingly concerned" about the challenges facing the business, and expects same-store sales to decline another 10% year-over-year. For the quarter to be reported, analysts are looking for an 18.6% decline in revenues to $1.34 billion. They also see GME flipping from a 5-cent-per-share profit in the year-ago quarter to a 21-cent loss. The company will report after the Sept. 10 close.” data-reactid=”21″>Earnings Spotlight: GameStop (GME, $4.23) – GameStop investors are hoping for a little salve on what has been a disastrous year for the video-game retailer. THURSDAY

<p class="canvas-atom canvas-text Mb(1.0em) Mb(0)–sm Mt(0.8em)–sm" type="text" content="Earnings Spotlight: Kroger (KR, $24.83) – America’s largest pure-play supermarket chain has struggled in 2019, off about 10% year-to-date versus a 19% gain for the broader market. Much of the damage was done after an earnings miss in March, though better numbers from its June report didn’t stem the tide, either. A couple of analysts have logged votes of confidence, however. BMO Capital’s Kelly Bania recently raised her price target from $24 per share to $26, saying quarterly earnings "could set up favorably." Guggenheim’s John Heinbockel reiterated his Buy rating on similar optimism about the quarter to be reported, including raising his earnings estimates. Kroger will report ahead of the Sept. 12 open, with analysts looking for $28.38 billion in revenues (+1.9% year-over-year) and 41 cents per share in profits (flat).” data-reactid=”27″>Earnings Spotlight: Kroger (KR, $24.83) – America’s largest pure-play supermarket chain has struggled in 2019, off about 10% year-to-date versus a 19% gain for the broader market. <p class="canvas-atom canvas-text Mb(1.0em) Mb(0)–sm Mt(0.8em)–sm" type="text" content="Earnings Spotlight: Broadcom (AVGO, $291.02) – Chipmaker Broadcom is having an up year, at 14% gains for the year, but hardly a great year, considering the broader technology sector has raced ahead by 32% in 2019. The company has been hindered by U.S.-China trade relations, including America’s blacklisting of Broadcom customer Huawei. Investors also are trying to digest the August announcement that Broadcom would purchase security company Symantec (SYMC) for $10.7 billion. KeyBanc Capital Markets’ John Vinh weighed in, saying, "We are constructive on the deal, as it remains consistent with the AVGO consolidation playbook of acquiring highly profitable businesses that are mature in consolidated sectors with a sticky customer base." Concerning Broadcom’s upcoming report, due out after Thursday’s close: Analysts are looking for a 9.5% increase in revenues to $5.55 billion, and a more modest 3% improvement to profits to $5.13 per share.” data-reactid=”29″>Earnings Spotlight: Broadcom (AVGO, $291.02) – Chipmaker Broadcom is having an up year, at 14% gains for the year, but hardly a great year, considering the broader technology sector has raced ahead by 32% in 2019.
