Joe Biden will visit Kenosha, Wis., on Thursday amid lingering tensions over the shooting of a Black man by a white police officer, making the trip two days after President Donald Trump toured the city.
The Democratic presidential nominee’s campaign said Biden would hold a community meeting in Kenosha “to bring together Americans to heal and address the challenges we face.” Following that meeting, Biden and his wife Jill will make a “local stop,” according to the campaign. Further details weren’t available.

Kenosha, as the Associated Press reports, has been riven by protests since the Aug. 23 shooting of Jacob Blake, a Black man hit seven times in the back by police as he was getting into a car while they were trying to arrest him.
Trump, on the eve of his Tuesday visit, defended a teenage supporter accused of fatally shooting two men at a Kenosha demonstration and accused Biden of siding with “anarchists” and “rioters” in the unrest, AP wrote. Wisconsin’s governor and Kenosha’s mayor, both Democrats, had pleaded with Trump to stay away from the city.
Kenosha Mayor John Antaramian also told CNN that it’s too soon for Biden to visit.

Trump narrowly won Wisconsin in 2016. Biden accepted his party’s nomination for president from Wilmington, Del., instead of Milwaukee after the Democratic convention planned in that city went to a largely virtual format over coronavirus concerns.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel noted Biden’s visit to Wisconsin will be his first this year, and the first to the state by a Democratic presidential nominee since 2012.
