Facebook probes surge in false Philippines accounts

Facebook said on Sunday that it was probing reports of “suspicious activity” on its platform after hundreds, possibly thousands of journalists, students and others in the Philippines reported multiple false accounts had been set up in their names. The cyber crime unit of the country’s Department of Justice said it had ordered an investigation of the dummy accounts, which appeared over the weekend among users in the central city of Cebu, the capital Manila and elsewhere.
