How Fast Is Netflix Growing Its Earnings Per Share?

Over the last three years, Netflix has grown earnings per share (EPS) like young bamboo after rain; fast, and from a low base. So I don’t think the percent growth rate is particularly meaningful. As a result, I’ll zoom in on growth over the last year, instead. It’s good to see that Netflix’s EPS have grown from US$2.28 to US$2.64 over twelve months. That’s a 16% gain; respectable growth in the broader scheme of things.

One way to double-check a company’s growth is to look at how its revenue, and earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins are changing. Netflix maintained stable EBIT margins over the last year, all while growing revenue 27% to US$18b. That’s a real positive.

Are Netflix Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Since Netflix has a market capitalization of US$136b, we wouldn’t expect insiders to hold a large percentage of shares. But we do take comfort from the fact that they are investors in the company. Indeed, they have a glittering mountain of wealth invested in it, currently valued at US$2.0b. I would find that kind of skin in the game quite encouraging, if I owned shares, since it would ensure that the leaders of the company would also experience my success, or failure, with the stock.

Is Netflix Worth Keeping An Eye On?

<p class="canvas-atom canvas-text Mb(1.0em) Mb(0)–sm Mt(0.8em)–sm" type="text" content="As I already mentioned, Netflix is a growing business, which is what I like to see. Just as polish makes silverware pop, the high level of insider ownership enhances my enthusiasm for this growth. The combination sparks joy for me, so I'd consider keeping the company on a watchlist. If you think Netflix might suit your style as an investor, you could go straight to its annual report, or you could first check our discounted cash flow (DCF) valuation for the company.” data-reactid=”41″>As I already mentioned, Netflix is a growing business, which is what I like to see.
