Stocks open slightly lower, on track for modest weekly gains

U.S. stocks opened slightly lower Friday, with major indexes attempting to hold on to modest weekly gains. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 29 points, or 0.1%, at 34,723, while the S&P 500 fell 0.2% to 4,466. The Nasdaq Composite was off 0.2% at 15,159. Through Thursday, the Dow was up 0.4%, while the S&P 500 had gained 0.3% and the Nasdaq had advanced 0.4%.
