Jeff Bezos’s rocket company gets virus lockdown exemption

Blue Origin, the space exploration company founded by Amazon chief executive Jeff Bezos, is to continue operating through the coronavirus crisis after being deemed an “essential” business by the US government. The Washington state-based company, which has facilities in five other states, said it had received direct correspondence from the Department of Defense, as well as the Department of Homeland Security, granting it an exemption to the nationwide lockdown on the basis of its future value to national security.
