Key Words: Baltimore Sun editorial shreds Trump’s ‘Pavlovian’ response to Fox News

President Trump unleashed another one of his controversial tweetstorms over the weekend, slamming House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings and calling his Baltimore district a “disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess.”

Trump went on to suggest that conditions in Cummings’ district are “FAR WORSE and more dangerous” than those at the southern border.

The editorial board at the Baltimore Sun fired back:

‘We would tell the most dishonest man to ever occupy the Oval Office, the mocker of war heroes, the gleeful grabber of women’s private parts, the serial bankrupter of businesses, the useful idiot of Vladimir Putin and the guy who insisted there are “good people” among murderous neo-Nazis that he’s still not fooling most Americans into believing he’s even slightly competent in his current post. Or that he possesses a scintilla of integrity. Better to have some vermin living in your neighborhood than to be one.’

The paper then went on to hit Trump for his “Pavlovian” response to a story criticizing Baltimore from his favorite network that aired earlier that morning.

“Fox News rang the bell, the president salivated and his thumbs moved across his cell phone into action,” the Baltimore Sun wrote.

Baltimore’s mayor, following Cummings’s response, joined the angry chorus:

Reaction poured in from all over — with a smattering of defenders — as the #TrumpIsARat hashtag was trending well into Sunday afternoon.

As of Sunday, Trump still hadn’t backed down:

Of course, the latest episode follows closely on the heels of Trump saying that four minority congresswomen should “go back” to where they came from, even though three of the four came from the United States. The House voted earlier this month to condemn those remarks as racist.
