‘Let us remember how small our differences are in the face of this shared threat. In the final analysis, we are not partisan combatants. We are human beings, equally vulnerable and equally wonderful in the sight of God. We rise or fall together. And we are determined to rise.’

That’s former President George W. Bush calling on Americans, in these divided times, to come together to fight the “shared threat” of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Let’s remember that the suffering we experience as a nation does not fall evenly. In the days to come, it will be especially important to care in practical ways for the elderly, the ill and the unemployed,” Bush said in a video that attracted more than 5 million views overnight.

Bush’s call to end all the partisan bickering was warmly received by many across social media, but one particularly notable Twitter TWTR, -2.92% personality wasn’t nearly as enamored.

Trump, of course, is referring to Bush’s lack of a public comment amid the House’s move to impeach the president late last year. Bush and his family, however, have criticized Trump in the past.

Bush’s latest message is part of “The Call to Unite” series, which has also featured Oprah Winfrey, Julia Roberts, Martin Luther King III, Quincy Jones, Naomi Judd, Andrew Yang and others.
