‘I go back and forth on whether to go on Fox News. The main reason I haven’t is squaring the fact that the ad revenue from it bankrolls a white supremacist sympathizer to broadcast an hour-long production of unmitigated racism, without any accountability whatsoever.

That’s New York Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez explaining in a tweet on Wednesday why she avoids appearing on Fox News, a network that frequently criticizes the rookie congresswoman and her policies.

She was pointing specifically to a segment on Tucker Carlson’s show that aired on Tuesday night in which Seth Barron of the conservative Manhattan Institute suggested Ocasio-Cortez’s Bronx-Queens district in New York is “dirty” because there just aren’t enough Americans there. He pointed his finger at “illegal aliens” who “live in a lot of illegal spaces, like basements.”

Barron’s comments followed Carlson again mocking Ocasio-Cortez for her backing the Green New Deal when her own district needs attention. “We’re connoisseurs of irony on this show, but if you claim to care about the environment, you’d think that the little piece of America you’re responsible for, that you represent in the Congress, would be clean but hers isn’t. Why?” Carlson asked.

Barron ultimately addressed the backlash and apologized on Twitter:
