Key Words: Joe Rogan is bailing on California after scoring $100-million deal

The podcasting giant says he’s headed for Texas. Read More...

Joe Rogan, you just landed a $100-million licensing deal, what are you going to do next?

Well, he’s not going to Disneyland DIS, -0.43% . In fact, as he recently announced on his “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast, he’s headed in the opposite direction.

‘When you look at the traffic, when you look at the economic despair, when you look at the homelessness problem that’s accelerated radically over the last six, seven, 10 years, I think there’s too many people here. I think it’s not tenable, I don’t think that it’s manageable.’

That’s Rogan‘s reasoning for leaving Los Angeles and heading — “soon” — to Texas.

“Every mayor does a s**t job of doing it because I don’t think anybody could do a great job of it,” added Rogan, who makes a reported $30 million a year doing his podcast. “I think there’s certain things you’re gonna have to deal with when you have a population of whatever the f**k L.A. is.”

Back in May, in criticizing the coronavirus lockdown, Rogan teased the potential move.

“If California continues to be this restrictive, I don’t know if this is a good place to live,” he explained. “I might jet. I’m not kidding. I’m not kidding, this is silly. I don’t need to be here.”

Rogan was trending Sunday on Twitter, where, of course, politics took over:

Earlier this year, Rogan sold his podcast to Spotify SPOT, +0.44% in a licensing deal that’s reportedly worth more than $100 million. Rogan’s full library — which adds up to about 1,500 episodes over the years — will debut on its new home beginning Sept. 1.
