‘To too many people he’s not a human being, he’s a demigod. It’s embarrassing to listen to some of these people. I don’t think they care very much about issues. They’ll vote for him no matter what because he’s not ‘them.’ I think it’s come down to ‘them’ or ‘us.’

That’s right-wing talk show host Michael Savage talking to the New York Times, “with a hint of disappointment,” about what continues to drive Donald Trump supporters and why they are so unwilling to second-guess the president.

Savage, whose unofficial motto says, “borders, language, culture,” backed Trump well before his official campaign began, having declared in a 2011 interview that he had found a president.

His skepticism apparently isn’t going over too well with his Trump-loving listeners, who appear to be living up to the president’s infamous boast that he could shoot somebody in the streets of New York and still not lose any voters.

He says he’s losing access as a result.

“They [the White House] keep pushing me away because they don’t like what in their mind is not 100% sycophantic behavior,” he said.

So, will a Democrat get Savage’s vote in 2020?

“I’m no Benedict Arnold,” says the man who once called Trump, “Winston Churchill of our time.” Savage insists he’ll still vote Trump because there’s no other candidate he could imagine supporter, according to the Times.

Without going into detail on Twitter TWTR, +0.77%  , Savage took exception with how he was portrayed in the story:
