London’s Heathrow Airport said Monday it had the busiest start to the year in three years, another sign that the recovery in demand after pandemic shutdowns is offsetting a surge in inflation.
Heathrow said it carried 5.48 million passengers in January, more than double year-ago levels. The traffic bump came after a strike in December by customs officials.
Cargo however slumped 11%, including a 35% plunge from Asia-Pacific.
Ferrovial FER, -0.04% is the lead owner of Heathrow, and International Airlines Group IAG, +1.54% -held British Airways has its hub at Heathrow.
