Markets close in the green, energy and technology stocks among biggest gainers

Yahoo Finance’s Ines Ferre takes a look at what led markets on Thursday, including big names in the energy and tech sectors.

DAVE BRIGGS: All right, we’re just less than two minutes away from the closing bell on Wall Street. You can see all numbers pointing up on a green Thursday here. Ines Ferre here with a look inside these numbers. Hi there, Ines. What are we seeing?

INES FERRE: Hi, Dave. Gains across the board when we’re talking about the major averages. We’re seeing the Dow up 350 points. The NASDAQ up more than 2%. And the S&P 500 up about 1 and 1/2%. And check out the Russell 2000, the small caps, up more than 2%. Looking under the hood, we are seeing energy stocks, the laggards of yesterday and the day before, today, those are the gainers, with XLE up 3.6%, followed by consumer discretionary stocks and also technology stocks.

Over on the Dow, we’re watching Intel up more than 3%. Nike and Caterpillar are the leaders on the Dow. With the NASDAQ 100, take a look at the left-hand side of the screen, the mega-caps, Apple up more than 2%, Alphabet higher, Tesla more than 5%. We’re also seeing quite a bit of green with the semis, which had been under pressure recently, today seeing some nice gains. Looking at the Ark Innovation ETF holdings, gains across the board there. And if we’re watching the travel stocks, these are also higher as well.

Finally, I just want to also mention the meme stocks because these are seeing gains across the board with the GME, I know you guys had mentioned, up 15%. And then looking at oil, we are seeing today oil rebounding after some violent downturns over the last couple of days. WTI up more than 3 and 1/2%. Brent crude up above $104 a barrel.
