jason: I am a disabled combat veteran and it took me 11 years, with the help of lawyers, to finally get VA benefits. I had surgery done on my right lung, and half of my right lung was removed. 10 weeks with a tube in my chest, and now can not work any manual labor jobs. I applied for food stamps during my recovery and was denied. I couldn’t work and just needed some help for a couple of months. Now here is what grinds my gears… The person in front of me was hispanic and was applying for benefits. He said in broken English that he had no job and has 2 kids. The worker processed his application very fast. He then got a phone call and answered (in spanish) that he could work tomorrow. I speak fluent Spanish. I asked him why he said he had no job but answered his phone and said he was working. He grabbed his stuff and 2 kids and rushed out of the office. Why could he get benefits, but I (disabled combat veteran) was denied? Why and how is it so unbelievably easy for illegal immigrants to receive benefits, but the honest and working Americans cannot get any assistance?
