Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT) may have paid $73 million for 332 acres in Leesburg at least in part to advance its effort to secure federal contracts that could pay off 100 times that, or more. The Redmond, Washington-based software giant is one of two finalists, along with Amazon Web Services (NASDAQ: AMZN), for the Defense Department's $10 billion Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure cloud computing contract.
