Cleveland Cavaliers star Kevin Love is giving arena workers a financial boost for the 2021 NBA season. Love is covering lost wagers from workers at the Cleveland Cavaliers home arena this season, according to local reports.
The added cost for workers is associated with extra cleaning and sanitizing precautions related to the coronavirus pandemic, as well as payments for lost games and events. The exact amount Love has contributed to local workers is unknown, but Love had previously stated he planned to donate $100,000 to workers at the Rocket Mortgage RKT, -0.82% Fieldhouse, the arena where the Cavaliers play.
Cavaliers center Andre Drummond and team owner Dan Gilbert have also donated funds to arena staff for lost wages.
Kevin Love has made $204 million from his NBA contracts in his 13 seasons in the league, and Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert has an estimated net worth just shy of $50 billion, according to Forbes.
Other NBA owners including Mark Cuban and Tilman Fertitta have made similar gestures to team employees and frontline workers amid the pandemic.
