O.J. Simpson is the latest celebrity on Twitter. TWTR, -0.52%
The NFL Hall of Famer created an account on the social networking site and has posted a video, entitled “Coming Soon!!!” By Saturday afternoon, Simpson had already attracted over 225,000 followers.
“You’ll get to read all my thoughts and opinions on just about everything,” the 71-year-old former football player says in the video. ““It should be a lot of fun. I’ve got a little getting even to do.”
Simpson’s lawyer, Malcolm LaVergne, confirmed to CNN that the account and video are authentic. LaVergne’s Twitter profile was one of six accounts Simpson has followed. Others include his son’s account and the NFL’s official account.

Simpson’s arrival on Twitter comes just after the 25th anniversary of the murders of Simpson’s ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman. Simpson was charged with the murders, but was found not guilty in a highly publicized trial that was recently dramatized in an FX mini-series. DIS, -0.06% Simpson was later ordered to $33.5 million in punitive damages to the Brown and Goldman families in a civil suit.
In 2008, Simpson was sentenced to a maximum 33 years in prison for 12 counts including armed robbery and kidnapping for his role in a 2007 robbery at a Las Vegas casino. Simpson was released in 2017 after serving nine years in prison.
