Heard on the Street: U.S. Chip Gear Suppliers Still Need China’s Wallet— For Now
Makers of chip manufacturing equipment have been having a party this year—with China footing much of the bill. The mood is brighter than it was at last year’s gathering, when the industry was beset by worries of a rapid slowdown in chip demand from key markets such as PCs, smartphones and memory. In a report Tuesday, Srini Pajjuri of Raymond James projected spending on wafer fab equipment, or WFE, will rise 2% this year and about 10% next year.
