Walmart to Raise Wages for U.S. Hourly Workers

Walmart said it is raising wages for its U.S. hourly workers as the country’s largest private employer continues to fight to attract staff in a tight labor market for front-line workers. Starting next month, Walmart’s U.S. workers in stores and warehouses will earn a starting wage of at least $14 an hour, up from $12, the company said in a memo to staff Tuesday. The changes, the latest in a series of increases by Walmart to close the gap with rivals, will push the company’s average hourly wages to over $17.50.
