The pitcher responsible for the first (and only) no-hitter in the history of the New York Mets is longing for a hit with the sale of his southwest Florida home.

The former All-Star Johan Santana commissioned this glorious mansion in Miromar Lakes, FL, in 2009, while he was starring for the Mets.

Now, the 9,121-square-foot home on about a half-acre of lakefront property is on the market for $5,995,000. It offers the ultimate in seclusion.

“He had three little kids at the time, and it’s a very private home,” says the listing agent, Jennifer Springer. “It sits at the end of the street.”

You have to pass through three gates before you enter the home; the main gate of the development, a secondary gate that goes into the neighborhood, and then a third gate where the home is.

“You’re really in your own sanctuary once you get inside there,” Springer says.

Once through the gates, you’ll find a a six-bedroom, seven-bathroom mansion built with quality materials throughout.

“[Santana] did a lot of research with his builder when he was building the home. He was very involved in the selection of materials,” Springer explains. “Most of the stone inside the home is from Syria.”

With all its custom features, she says, “It’s got a really unique Old World type charm to it.”

The main bedroom, on an upper floor, comes with a unique asset—an exterior staircase that leads down directly to the pool.

“It’s kind of the talk of the neighborhood. Nobody really has seen the home except if you’re on the lake, and you see this grand staircase coming down,” Springer says.

The bedroom opens onto a landing area with a fireplace, she says, which offers a great place to hang out.

Other bedrooms can be found on the second floor, along with a fitness area and an office.

For feeding a crowd, there’s a large gourmet kitchen and a generous pantry—which can also double as a storm safe room.

Other high-end amenities include a wine cellar and home theater.

For overnight guests, the first-floor guest suite is equipped with its own patio.

“It’s attached to the home, but it really sets up for a guests or family to just kind of have their own little sanctuary outside of the home that’s attached,” Springer says.

Outside, a large pool overlooks Lake Como.

“This house is on probably one of the nicest lots in Miromar Lakes,” Springer says.

In addition to the amenities at the house, the buyer will have access to neighborhood amenities including a beach club, restaurants, spa, and tennis and pickleball courts.

“I feel the buyer is going to be somebody with a large family that wants to be with their kids or grandkids and entertain. They can do all of that under one roof,” she says. “It’s a great way to just have a family vacation and be all together, but at the same time in their own private areas within the home.”

As the the triple gates signify, privacy is a key feature of this property.

“When you go into the home, you feel like you’re in your own little section of the universe, because it’s so private. You don’t have any sense of a neighbor. If you’re in the home or the outside, all you’re really looking at is the water,” Springer says.

Santana is a two-time Cy Young Award winner from Venezuela who starred for the Minnesota Twins from 2000 to 2007 and for the Mets from 2008 to 2012.

He threw his no-hitter on June 1, 2012, against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Whoever buys the house will also become next-door neighbors with Santana himself.

“It’s a unique kind of story, but when [Santana] bought this home and then built it, he actually bought the lot next door—which isn’t something that normally can be done in this development,” Springer explains. “He ended up building a playground for his kids as well as a batting cage, and they used it quite a bit.”

The family was thinking of remodeling the mansion they’re now selling, but have decided to build on their vacant lot.

“They just decided that they were going to start over, so now they have gone in a totally different direction and are building on that lot next door,” she says—a unique situation. “You know the neighbor you’re going to have.”
