Tech giants overtook Boeing during pandemic as state’s largest employers

Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) and Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) have become Washington's two largest employers since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, according to Business Journal research. The two tech giants overtook the Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA), which held the top spot for decades. Lockheed Martin downsizes Crystal City office space

Lockheed Martin Corp. has re-upped its Crystal City presence, but for less space. The nation’s largest government contractor (NYSE: LMT) renewed its lease at 2121 Crystal Drive, but for only 180,000 square feet, downsizing from 220,000 square feet, according to CBRE. Instead, Lockheed was planning for about half its 115,000 employees to work on-site full-time, with 10% fully remote and the remainder in hybrid configurations.
