Electric-car maker Tesla Inc. is investigating a video that appears to show a Model S exploding in a car park in Shanghai on Sunday.
The video circulating on Chinese media shows the car bursting into flames, which some Twitter users identified as a first generation Model S.
Tesla TSLA, +0.75% said it sent a team to Shanghai after learning about the accident.
“We immediately sent a team onsite and we’re supporting local authorities to establish the facts,” a Tesla spokesperson said in a statement. “From what we know now, no one was harmed.”
The company has had previous instances of autos catching fire. In December, a San Francisco Bay Area man’s new Tesla Model S caught fire after he had it towed to a dealership to fix a rapid drop in tire pressure. The auto maker was sued earlier this year by the parents of a Florida teen, who died when his Model S crashed. The suit alleges the battery pack for the auto is defective and fire prone.
Shares of Tesla fell over 2% in premarket trading Monday.
Chief Executive Elon Musk will gather investors on Monday to reveal his latest efforts to develop the company’s self-driving technology, two days before the release of first-quarter results, which are expected to show a loss due to weaker vehicle sales.
