Durban Locals Clean Up Following Days of Looting and Unrest

Local volunteers and workers continued cleanup efforts in the Durban area on Saturday, July 17, following days of unrest and looting that left at least 212 dead across South Africa.Protests began after former President Jacob Zuma handed himself into authorities to serve a 15-month jail sentence, and soon spiraled into violence and widescale looting. The worst-impacted province was KwaZulu-Natal, where shopping centers and other businesses were ransacked over the course of days. This week, the South African government deployed 25,000 troops to quell the violence.Footage taken on Saturday shows cleanup efforts underway in hard-hit locations within Durban.
