A hotel being used to quarantine people exposed to coronavirus has collapsed in southeast China, trapping about 70, according to reports.

The Xinjia Hotel, in Quanzhou City in Fujian province, collapsed around 7:30 p.m. local time Saturday, the Daily Mail reported.

At least 34 people have so far been rescued, the South China Morning Post said, citing the Ministry of Emergency Management.

The exact number of people in the 80-room hotel at the time was unknown.

Videos posted online showed emergency workers combing through the wreckage. State news agency Xinhua said rescue efforts were ongoing.

Over 80,850 people have been diagnosed with the virus in China since the epidemic started in late December, and nearly 3,500 have died. The spread has eased in the country, but the number of cases is growing worldwide.
