Entertainment Weekly is becoming a monthly, as publisher Meredith Corp. seeks to refocus the publication on a digital audience.
The company said Thursday the new format will make its debut in August. The July 5 issue will be the last in its current form. The publication will keep its name online and in print.
Some employees who worked on the print edition of the magazine were let go, a spokeswoman said, declining to comment further on those reductions.
At the same time, Meredith MDP, -1.63% said it would increase investments in Entertainment Weekly’s website, as well as its presence on social media and other digital platforms. The publication offers a range of coverage of television shows, movies, music and other media. Meredith also appointed a new editor in chief at the revamped Entertainment Weekly, promoting JD Heyman to take the job. He previously served as deputy editor of People magazine.
