U.S. indexes closed lower on Friday as the House of Representatives’ impeachment investigation continued to cause concern for investors. Indexes were also lower for the week after the day’s losses. Treasury prices were higher with greater demand for safety. The 30-year bond’s price increased 2/32 to a yield of 2.131%.
Economic reports affecting market trading included the following:
- Personal income increased 0.4% in August and personal spending increased 0.1%.
- The PCE Price Index was unchanged in August and increased 1.4% year over year. The Core PCE Price Index increased 0.1% in August and 1.8% year over year.
- Durable goods orders increased 0.2% in August following an increase of 2%. Durable goods orders, excluding transportation, increased 0.5% in August. Durable goods orders, excluding defense, decreased 0.6%.
- The Baker Hughes North American oil rig count decreased to 987.
- The Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index increased to 93.2 from 89.8.
In the S&P 500, the technology, real estate and health care sectors led losses. In the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the following stocks led losses:
