: White House to host Intel, Apple, Microsoft execs to discuss chip shortage

The CEO of Intel Corp. INTC, +1.19% will join executives from Apple Inc. AAPL, +1.69%, Microsoft Corp. MSFT, +1.28%, Ford Motor Co. F, +3.60% and others at a White House virtual meeting Thursday to address the global chip shortage, Reuters reported Wednesday.

Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and  National Economic Council Director Brian Deese will lead the meeting, which was announced last week.

Intel’s Pat Gelsinger plans to attend, according to Reuters; it’s unclear if other CEOs will join him. Representatives from Samsung Electronics Co. 005930, +0.13%, General Motors Co. GM, +2.86%, Stellantis NV STLA, +2.88%, Micron Technology Inc. MU, +2.54%, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. TSM, +0.79% and BMW BMW, +3.22% are also expected to attend, according to the report.

The meeting will reportedly focus on how to handle the ongoing semiconductor shortage, and how to ease the production bottlenecks.
