TUESDAY

<p class="canvas-atom canvas-text Mb(1.0em) Mb(0)–sm Mt(0.8em)–sm" type="text" content="Earnings Spotlight: Kohl's (KSS, $63.77) – Kohl’s, off 3% in 2019, has had a less-than-stellar year that has only deteriorated lately, despite its April announcement that it would expand a partnership with Amazon.com (AMZN). Kohl’s, which started offering free, easy returns to Amazon customers in 80 of its locations, grew the program to 100 stores before deciding it would roll it out company-wide. Analysts didn’t seem to keen, with Morgan Stanley maintaining its "Underweight" rating (equivalent of "Sell") because it’s difficult to tell whether the traffic boost will offset the incremental costs involved with the program. UBS maintained its "Neutral" rating (equivalent of "Hold"). Also tugging on : The company recently approached home décor retailer At Home Group (HOME) about a possible acquisition. Per the quarter that Kohl’s will report before the May 21 open: Analysts are looking for a 0.2% slip in revenues to $3.95 billion, though profits should improve 4.7% to 67 cents per share.” data-reactid=”22″>Earnings Spotlight: Kohl’s (KSS, $63.77) – Kohl’s, off 3% in 2019, has had a less-than-stellar year that has only deteriorated lately, despite its April announcement that it would expand a partnership with Amazon.com (AMZN). <p class="canvas-atom canvas-text Mb(1.0em) Mb(0)–sm Mt(0.8em)–sm" type="text" content="Earnings Spotlight: Nordstrom (JWN, $36.93) – If Kohl’s is struggling this year, Nordstrom is suffering. JWN shares have lost more than 20% in part thanks to a disappointing quarterly report at the end of February that saw revenues fall and miss expectations. Meanwhile, Wedbush analyst Jen Redding downgraded the stock from "Outperform" (equivalent of "Buy") to "Neutral" in early May, writing that her data "shows no reason for shares to run in the near term" and says margins are threatened by "alarming discount trends." The flip side is that JWN shares have been so badly shunned that they now trade for around 9 times estimates for future earnings – the Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index is valued twice as richly. Wall Street is looking for a small 0.4% uptick in revenues for the quarter to be reported after Tuesday’s closing bell, to $3.57 billion, but a 15.7% drop in profits to 43 cents per share.” data-reactid=”23″>Earnings Spotlight: Nordstrom (JWN, $36.93) – If Kohl’s is struggling this year, Nordstrom is suffering. THURSDAY

<p class="canvas-atom canvas-text Mb(1.0em) Mb(0)–sm Mt(0.8em)–sm" type="text" content="Earnings Spotlight: Intuit (INTU, $247.55) – Intuit’s May 23 earnings release, which will come after the close, is the most important one for the maker of personal finance and accounting software such as TurboTax and QuickBooks, as it includes tax season. On that front, all is well – Intuit in late April said it had a "strong" tax season that saw TurboTax units increase 5% year-over-year, prompting the company to project full-fiscal-year Consumer Group revenue growth of 10%, at the high end of its previous guidance range. Analysts are expecting good things from its coming quarterly report, too, modeling 10.5% revenue growth to $3.23 billion and a 12.2% jump in earnings to $5.41 per share, which would account for more than 80% of Intuit’s annual projected profits. That said, it’s worth noting that three analysts lowered their price targets on INTU stock over the past month.” data-reactid=”29″>Earnings Spotlight: Intuit (INTU, $247.55) – Intuit’s May 23 earnings release, which will come after the close, is the most important one for the maker of personal finance and accounting software such as TurboTax and QuickBooks, as it includes tax season.
